Ayatul Kursi in English

Allah! There is no god but He – the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor Sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there that can intercede in His presence except as he permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures As) Before or After or Behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His throne doth extend over the heavens and on earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them, For He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).

The Prophet’s saying regarding Ayatul Kursi.

Once upon a time, a man named Abu Huraira was responsible for the protection of a special charity called Zakat during the month of Ramadan. One day, while guarding the food meant for charity, he noticed someone taking some food without permission. Abu Huraira caught the person and told him he would take him to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Abu Huraira then shared the whole story with others and explained what happened because the person caught stealing the food had something unique to say. He asked Abu Huraira not to take him to the Prophet and promised to tell him something that would be very helpful.

He said, “Before you go to sleep, always recite Ayatul Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah 2.255) because when someone recites Ayatul Kursi, Allah SWT sends a protective guard to watch you while you sleep. This guard will keep you safe all night, and Sataan won’t be able to come near to him until Dawn.

Upon hearing this story, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explained to Abu Huraira that the person who came to him at night was lying, even though he had told him something true. Eventually, it turns out that Satan tried to make people do bad things; Satan said those words to trick Abu Huraira.

From this story, we need to learn that it is essential to be truthful and not to believe everything we hear, especially when it comes from someone who is not worthy of being trusted or wants to deceive the whole umma for his well-being. We should always seek guidance from Allah and follow the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
